FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What areas do you serve?

We try to stay within a 60-mile radius of any of our office locations in Fargo, ND, Fergus Falls, MN and Wahpeton, ND. Due to the size of our heavy equipment, anything outside that radius is typically cost prohibitive to transport.

How long have you been doing earthwork?

We got our start in civil construction in 1976 with a used John Deere 500 backhoe. Since then, we’ve grown from small excavation jobs to handling major projects like the earthwork for housing developments and flood dike work for the Corps of Engineers.

I have a project in mind; where do I start?

Getting started is easy—just contact Comstock Construction. If your project needs design work, we can connect you with a consultant. If you’ve already got plans, we’ll move forward with estimating and construction. No matter the size, from a few hundred dollars to multi-million-dollar projects, we’re ready to help.

How do you manage project timelines and budgets?

Our goal is to be transparent with clients. Project budgets and deadlines are set from the beginning, but sometimes there are unexpected challenges or changes that the client wants to make along the way.  We are up-front about how these changes to the scope of work affect timelines and budgets before moving ahead.

How do you communicate throughout a project?

We provide regular communication through weekly meetings with the client, superintendent, and civil operations manager. We also provide direct contact information to project superintendents and our civil operations manager so clients can reach out to them directly without going through phone trees. And once someone does reach out, our goal is to get back to people within hours instead of days.

How quickly can you respond in an emergency?

Our unwritten rule is to get back to people in a matter of hours, not days. In the case of emergencies, time is of the essence.

How are you different from competitors?

One of the ways we’re different is that we’re capable of handling a variety of projects whereas many of our competitors specialize in one area. Another way is that we use our expertise to provide value engineering on projects. Meaning, with each estimate or project, we look for ways to save money for our customers- without sacrificing quality- through construction execution, logistics, and material substitutions.

Do you guarantee your work?

We stand behind our craftsmanship in every project, and our clients testify to our level of quality. As Kyle Rogahn, a City of Wahpeton Engineering Project Manager, puts it “. . . Comstock crews don’t cut corners, they construction the project the ‘right’ way.” Or as Otter Tail Power Company’s Senior Substation Engineer, Jim Hubbard says, “Our stance has always been that Comstock Construction does quality work and we are happy to partner with them when possible.”

Testimonials

The New Town Public School District #1 worked with Comstock on two projects: the High School Gym and the CTE Center. Comstock did a great job of keeping the building projects on time and on budget. Their staff were competent and easy to work with. They kept us updated in all aspects of the project. Both buildings are a source of pride for our community.

If you are looking for a General Contractor for an upcoming construction project, look no further. Comstock Construction from Wahpeton, ND can put your mind at ease when planning a big construction project. Working with Comstock Construction during the construction of our new 20 million dollar elementary school building was nothing short of exceptional.

Because of Comstock Construction’s experience on healthcare projects, they have a clear understanding of the impact construction has on patient care and the importance of timelines, project budget management, safety and security challenges. Comstock Construction, from their owners to the on-site staff, have always performed with a high level of integrity.

I was very confident after our first meeting that we could make the project successful. Our total cost came in under budget. I give a lot of credit to the Comstock team for making suggestions to the architect and to me that saved us considerable amounts of money and time.

I have nothing but great things to say about the Comstock team. From concept to finish, the support provided is second to none. Not only does the finished product always match the vision discussed, but in my multiple experiences, we have come in favorable to budget and on-time!
