In 2017, Comstock Construction completed the Burleigh Morton County Detention Center in Bismarck, ND in collaboration with ubl Design Group and Venture Architects. This multi-prime project resulted in the construction of a 230,000 SF county detention center that serves both Burleigh and Morton Counties, providing state-of-the-art facilities to support the region’s law enforcement and correctional services.
Designed for Security, Functionality, and Efficiency
The jail was designed with security and operational efficiency at its core. The facility houses 480 jail beds, divided among five two-story pods designed for varying levels of security, from dormitory-style housing to maximum-security cells. Key features of the facility include:
- Office and support spaces for the Sheriff’s Department, providing administrative and operational support.
- A visitor’s area designed to ensure secure and controlled access for families and legal representatives.
- A booking/holding area to process new detainees with safety and efficiency.
- Outdoor recreation spaces for inmates, ensuring their access to outdoor activity while maintaining security.
- A vehicle sallyport for secure vehicle access, allowing for the transport of detainees with minimal risk.
